Hi, I'm Madison

Hello! I’m Madison Cook, and I’m running as a write-in candidate for the RSU 71 School Board. I’ve stepped up to run because the quality of our school system—and the future of our students, teachers, and community—matters to me.  And, honestly, this election is an important one. Getting involved and supporting our campaign can make a real difference right here in our community.

I grew up in Belfast, attending Waldo County schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. The incredible teachers and programs I experienced—especially in the arts, horticulture, and technical education—shaped who I am today. After graduating, I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tulane University in Louisiana. From there, I joined the faculty at Virginia Tech, where I taught design in rural Appalachia and served in several administrative and leadership roles, including on an international search committee for a new school director.

I’m so glad to be home again in coastal Maine, prepared to give back to the community that gave me so much.

My vision is simple: I want our schools to spark imagination, embrace play, and prepare students for the future. Every student deserves access to a strong academic foundation and meaningful opportunities for career exploration—because both are essential to building the skills and confidence they’ll need to thrive beyond graduation.

I’m ready to listen, collaborate, and serve. Together, we can continue building a school district that reflects our community’s values.
